Back in July a three year goal came to be in getting to return to running a 100 mile race at the very intentionally chosen @highlonesome100 . After 20years of running this distance competitively and another 6+hiatus from doing so, the distance once again provided some learning opportunities. I’m thankful for the opportunity to process some of those thoughts in this @scarpana blog post (https://us.scarpa.com/community/blog/article/a-return-to-running-100-miles-with-a-new-perspective) as well as out loud on @trailrunnernation episode 689. ☺️

This round-the-world trip kicked off with a stop in Chamonix to participate in the UTMB Live announcing team. I joined @knife_blade & @martingaff on the English Channel for a total of about 35 hours in 3 days. @majellb , @theultrarunnergirl and @scottjurek were in the studio and in the field making an awesome collection of voices and perspectives. The French, Spanish, Chinese and Italian channels were awesome and kept the energy high as we all watched & reported the three @utmbworldseries races so closely. I’ve had a number of experiences (5 runs: 3 finishes, 2 wins, 1 dnf & one hut-to-hut. One summit with @alpineprincess , one spectating with @runneryogini , and one Legends Tour) with and at @utmbmontblanc over the 21 years since that first running in 2003. And I’m thankful for the perspective and connections each one has brought. This year I gained key insights in the lead up in asking for advice from @knife_blade @jureksontherun @corrinemalcolm @garyrobbins & @handcuffedcreative that helped prepare me for the new pundit role that made the whole experience worthwhile and a lot of fun. 🙏🏼 I’m in awe of these athletes and professionals and the evolution of our sport on display at this event. I give a lot of credit to @irunfar for leading the charge on making Ultrarunning watchable/able to follow and the likes of @runfreetrail & @runsingletrack for rolling out information and psyche. Live feeds and the amazing Camera Runners help bring this sport home in a way I’d never have imagined. The positives are there and as long as this community continues to prioritize our connection to each other and the places we love to play there is a lot we can look forward to 🤗
